Information
Organization Name:
Cecil Forest Conservancy
District Board
Name of Project: Construct and install 5 informational boards
2. Summary of the
Project
Summarize
the implementation of the project and describe how you achieved your project
goals. Please be sure to address the
components funded under MUCFC grant funds.
Describe any public involvement in the project that has occurred,
including the specific roles of volunteers in project activities. Include a description of any community
planting events. Also, describe any
outreach or educational activities (e.g. training, brochures, press releases,
or public events) related to the project that has occurred. You may attach photos, digital images,
newsletter articles, or press clippings to supplement your written description.
Due to increased material cost which occurred after
the grant was submitted, there were funds available for only 4 boards. There was a minor cost overrun which was
covered by funds from the Cecil Board. The four boards were constructed and
installed, with the final installation occurring on 5/23/14. Volunteers from W. L. Gore and Associates
assembled the 4 boards following instructions from Shawn Day, Manager, Elk Neck
State Forest. Mr. Day and his staff dug
the holes and set the 6" x 6" x 4' posts with concrete, pre-constructed the 4 boards and transported
all materials to the site. Forest Board
members Dori Murphy and John Bennett purchased the materials under the
direction of Mr. Day, and helped transport some of the materials.
3.
Monitoring and Maintenance
Describe any monitoring and maintenance specific to
your tree planting program that will take place after your project is complete.
The boards are
installed along portions of the various gravel paths in the Elk Neck State
Forest Arboretum (see brochure). Mowing
around the boards and monitoring for any vandalism or damage from natural
causes will be accomplished by DNR staff and members of the Forestry Board.
