MEETING MINUTES

Treasurer’s Report:
Current financial status was discussed.
Arboretum/ENSF Planning
Shawn presented an
update on ENSF projects and is continuing to plan for current/future projects
at the Arboretum specifically. ENSF
projects included several sediment control projects and the beginning on the
deconstruction of the dam that was breeched several years ago.
Shawn thanked the
Board for all the help on installing exhibits and maintaining of the
Arboretum. He will be applying for Tier
2 Arboretum certification. He would also
like to be contacted before any volunteer work occurs. The main priorities right now are continuing
to mulch, maintain the areas around the signs and finding any invasive
species. John will work on ordering two
tree id signs (chestnut and
Shawn is also in
the process of developing a longer term Plan for the Arboretum. Suggestions and ideas should be sent to Shawn
(and the rest of the Board) for discussion.
This could include improvements or new projects. Dori suggested getting a deer crossing sign
put in. Shawn said he could only suggest
it to the County. Shawn will work with
Joanne Healey on collection of the herbarium materials. A playground is probably not going to happen
because of liability, installation cost and possible continuing costs.
Cecil Big Tree Program Update:

NRCC Update:
So far there are 28 applications. Gabrielle and Kathie interviewed a student
from
New Business:
Michael would like
to look into getting signs for the Cecil College Tree ID trail and other trees
on campus. It was suggested to apply for
a MUCFC grant that would need to be submitted by September.
John suggested not
meeting until August. The Board agreed
being there would probably be no updates until NRCC was over and cooler weather
arrives. The only exception is if a
Timber Harvest Plan is submitted.
Tom passed out a
copy of the American Chestnut Foundation magazine. A former member and resident of Elk Neck
stopped by to inquire about local chestnut trees and pass on some information
about Chestnut research.
