Treasurer’s Report:

Current financial status was discussed.

Arboretum/ENSF Planning

Shawn presented an update on ENSF projects and is continuing to plan for current/future projects at the Arboretum specifically.  ENSF projects included several sediment control projects and the beginning on the deconstruction of the dam that was breeched several years ago.

Shawn thanked the Board for all the help on installing exhibits and maintaining of the Arboretum.  He will be applying for Tier 2 Arboretum certification.  He would also like to be contacted before any volunteer work occurs.  The main priorities right now are continuing to mulch, maintain the areas around the signs and finding any invasive species.  John will work on ordering two tree id signs (chestnut and Virginia pine).  The $35 donation from the Garden Club plus $10 from the Board will fund these signs.

Shawn is also in the process of developing a longer term Plan for the Arboretum.  Suggestions and ideas should be sent to Shawn (and the rest of the Board) for discussion.  This could include improvements or new projects.  Dori suggested getting a deer crossing sign put in.  Shawn said he could only suggest it to the County.  Shawn will work with Joanne Healey on collection of the herbarium materials.  A playground is probably not going to happen because of liability, installation cost and possible continuing costs.

Cecil Big Tree Program Update:

Submitted by John Bennett

No update on local Program

Update on Grove Point GS Camp Projects:

GS Camp

Some trees still need to be ID’d.

NRCC Update:

So far there are 28 applications.  Gabrielle and Kathie interviewed a student from New Jersey. He was selected and is enthusiastic about attending.  Kathie was able to set up the video interview.

New Business:

Michael would like to look into getting signs for the Cecil College Tree ID trail and other trees on campus.  It was suggested to apply for a MUCFC grant that would need to be submitted by September.

John suggested not meeting until August.  The Board agreed being there would probably be no updates until NRCC was over and cooler weather arrives.  The only exception is if a Timber Harvest Plan is submitted.

Tom passed out a copy of the American Chestnut Foundation magazine.   A former member and resident of Elk Neck stopped by to inquire about local chestnut trees and pass on some information about Chestnut research.
