Treasurer’s Report:

Current financial status was discussed.

Cecil/State Big Tree Program Update:

John went over the recently “transferred” Big Tree Website.  A volunteer made the website usable again for the Maryland Forestry Foundation.  This was a big deal considering the alternatives.

John went up to Plumpton Park Zoo to look at several trees.  Although some may qualify for measuring, he is still waiting for a permission form.

There is an American Basswood nomination in Rising Sun.  Dori and Kathie said they would help if they were available on the measuring day.  John will try to set up.

ENSF Arboretum/Grove Point GS Camp Projects

Several Tree ID signs have been received for the Arboretum.  There is still one sign to be installed.  And a couple more will need to be ordered.  Trees have been mostly mulched and weeded at the Arboretum.

There are still several signs to be installed at the Girl Scout Camp.  John is waiting to get some assistance from the Camp on a transport vehicle for tree ID along the lengthy trail.  Most likely the Camp is busy now with campers.

NRCC Update:

Gabrielle reported that there were 33 students.  Things went well.  However the weather was not great, as it was warmer than usual and rain cancelled some of the more popular activities on one day. Gabrielle also gave an excellent powerpoint presentation on the daily activities at the Camp.

New Business:

John will be working on Labor Day at the State Fair.

John was also contacted by the Wildlife Habitat Council about the Bridgestone/Firestone property in Colora.  They would like to add Tree ID signs to their trails.  John said he would work with them, but that they needed to apply for the grants to fund the project.

John has had installed an 8 foot deer fence around his house, nursery and landscaping to protect from deer browse.  As his house is mostly in the woods, it will be interesting to see what happens with oak regeneration with deer excluded.

Tom passed out 3 year reappointment certificates to Dori and Kathie along with Don Van Hassent’s thank you.

Tom went over the Smokey materials supply.  The Board approved purchasing pencils and rulers which will cost about $170.00 + shipping.
