Cecil/State Big Tree Program Update:

Six trees have been measured/remeasured in Cecil County this year.  Most of the 2017 trees have been remeasured.  The measuring team will look at starting the 2018 trees.  John presented pictures of the trees recently measured.

Ron is still checking on the Dawn Redwood off of Rt 276.  No one is ever home.

Camp Hickory Update:

Gabrielle and Kevin Schaus attended the MAEOE(MD environmental educators) conference in Towson to promote NRCC.  Many contacts were made by people, who both knew about the Camp and people that never heard of the NRCC.

There are 14 students signed up so far for NRCC.

Gabrielle will try to get an article in the papers periodically.

Cecil FB Website Update:

Ron presented the updates to the site.

The major change is that on the Cecil County Big Tree Champion List, a one page link is provided that includes a picture and measurement information.  Many if not most of the trees are completed.

Ron made several other changes and additions.

Again, the Board is very happy with the website and how it works.

New Business:

The Board discussed the MUCFC Woodlawn Tree ID Grant funding.  One question is since the check was made out to the Cecil Board, what responsibilities are required from the Board for grant completion and financial oversight.  These questions will be asked at the State Association Meeting.

Gabrielle, John, Dori and Tom will be attending the State Association meeting.

Kathie said that the Cecil College Horticulture Club is looking to having another Spring Seminar.

John informed the Board that St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show is on May 5 & 6.  Gabrielle will check to see if we are registered.

John went over some proposed legislation including the “upgrading” of the Forest Conservation Act requirements.

Michael talked about the new Elk Neck State Park purchase on lower Elk Neck.

Tom will send out the emails to everyone regarding the request for financial support for the National Envirothon Competition to be held in Maryland this year.

Tom informed the Board of a major renovation of the polebarn at ENSF.  Shawn and his crew will be working out of Black Hill for the next couple of months.

Tom gave an update on the Backyard Buffers Program in Cecil County that has been advertised in the local papers and has about 35 out of 50 packets reserved.
