Treasurer’s Report:

Tom Frederick presented financial status and board discussed the information.

Report on State Association Meeting:

John gave a great presentation on the State Association Meeting in March.  Subjects included the current budget situation, pending legislation, “waters of the state” and MDE sediment issues, Anne Hairston-Strang’s appointment as Associate Director of the Forest Service, a good presentation on forestry at APG and a good presentation on tree diseases.  But the biggest news was that Gabrielle received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 25 years of service to the NRCC.  Congratulations!

Cecil/State Big Tree Program Update:

John recommended delisting the White Mulberry at NE Methodist Church Cemetery due to damage and the tree condition.  The Board agreed.

John is working with West Nottingham Academy on April 26th on presentations of tree measuring and EAB with Colleen Kenney.  If anyone is available to help with tree measuring, contact John.

Ron is still trying to get a contact on the Dawn Redwood off of Rt 276.

Camp Hickory Update:

Cecil has received an application for NRCC.  It looks like an outstanding application.  Gabrielle will contact her for an interview for our next meeting on Tuesday, May 2nd.

There are over 20 student applications so far for NRCC.

Gabrielle will try to get an article in the papers periodically.

Kathie may have a relative interested in NRCC.

Cecil FB Website Update:

Ron will take off the BYB advertisement.  He also posted the accomplishment report for 2016.  He would like to post more of them.

Ron went over how the Cecil County Big Tree Champion List displays the pictures and the Board chose which format they wanted.  He would also like to add more information on the Arboretum.

Michael will send Ron some Insect/Disease brochures.

New Business:

The St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show will be May 4, 5 and 6.  Gabrielle will send out a schedule to start filling in.

John brought some old display stuff for use or storage at Black Hill.

John went over some information on bee habitat problems and the new endangered listing for one species.

Gabrielle reported that she talked to Danny Davis, longtime Harford County boardmember, and he said he can give a tour for the Harford and Cecil Boards at his new employer, Stoltzfus Sawmill in PA.  However it would probably be during the work week.

Kathie said that the Cecil College Horticulture Club Seminar on Native Species is on Friday, April 28th at 6 pm at Cecil College.

Michael reported that even though some trees look healthy, many were damaged by the icestorm.

Tom reported that the Backyard Buffers giveaway days will be Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.

Note the next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 2nd.   If anyone can arrive at 4 or 5 o’clock to help pack seedlings for the Garden Show, it will be appreciated.  We will have seedling packing, interview Camp Hickory student(s) and possibly a CA THP to review.
