Treasurer’s Report:

 

Submitted by Tom Frederick.  Last month’s expenses were presented and discussed.

 

Interview Natural Resource Careers Conference Applicant:

 

The Board interviewed one Camp applicant.  The student was very well-qualified and enthusiastic.  She was selected by all members of the Board to attend.  Gabrielle will notify the student and her family.  The cost to the Board will be $450.00.  Gabrielle will contact Dawn Balinski to determine how much of the Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation funds are still remaining.    

 

Hazel Critical Area Timber Harvest Plan Review:

 

The Board reviewed the Hazel Critical Area Timber Harvest Plan.  Tom presented the Department of Natural Resources review of the Plan.  The Board voted 5-0 to recommend approval of the Plan to the County.  One member, Michael Morgan recused himself from the vote.  The landowner is/was a customer of Mr. Morgan’s business.  Tom will send the appropriate notifications to other agencies.

 

Dupont-Wright Critical Area Timber Harvest Plan Review:

 

The Board provisionally reviewed the Dupont-Wright Critical Area Timber Harvest Plan.  However the DNR-Wildlife & Heritage Service has expressed an “intent to provide comments” and has 30 days to do so.  Once the comments have been received, the Board will review and vote.

 

Set-Up St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show:

 

Gabrielle put together a schedule for manning the display booth.  Inclement weather could be a problem if the forecast is correct.  Tom wrapped some seedlings and put together some brochures.  Gabrielle and Kathie will set up on Thursday afternoon.  Gabrielle, Ron, Kathie and Tom will be at the display at different times.

 

Cecil/State Big Tree Program Update:

 

John reported that due to other green ash deaths, the green ash in Elkton Town Park may become the State/National champion.

 

John held a Big Tree/EAB event at West Nottingham Academy on April 26th.  Colleen Kinney, Maryland Forest Service assisted with the EAB portion.

 

Ron obtained addresses of absentee landowners on a couple trees in his area.  Contact will be attempted with the landowners. 

 

Tom found a yellow poplar tree that will probably qualify for the program.  He will send the landowner a permission & nomination form.

 

Kathie made some return address labels for John to send out correspondence. 

 

Tawe’s Garden at the DNR headquarters bldg has a deodar cedar tree that may be worth measuring. 

 

Camp Hickory Update:

 

There are at least 28 student applications so far for NRCC.

 

There was an article in the DNR magazine.  Gabrielle will try to get the article in some local papers.

 

It was suggested to send it out to the Cecil partnership.

 

Cecil FB Website Update:

 

Ron has added more information about the Arboretum project to the site.  He is still looking for more grant paperwork and information for the completed projects section.

 

Updates to Agenda and Minutes continue.

 

New Business:

 

Michael and Kathie reported on the Horticulture Club spring seminar.  It included some habitat tips for developed or suburban areas.

 

John reported that the Arboretum has a wedding scheduled on-site.

 

Dori reported that she tried to measure a tree at ENSP, but the parking lot was full and closed.

 

Gabrielle reported that she will talk to Danny Davis again to possibly set up a tour for the Harford and Cecil Boards at his new employer, Stoltzfus Sawmill in PA.  However it would probably be during the work week.

 

Tom reported that 50 of the Backyard Buffer packets were given away to landowners in Cecil County.  He also reported the location where the White Pine giveaway seedlings were used.
