Cecil/State Big Tree Program Update:

John and Tom measured a new county champion loblolly pine in Colora.  Ron had located the absentee landowner.

John gave a presentation on the many trees measured in August.  Trees were measured in Baltimore City, Cecil, Baltimore, Frederick, Harford, Montgomery, Carroll counties and at UMES.  John and Kathie are going to try to take pictures of the Harford trees.

Several new members have become active in the State Program.

Website Update:

Ron went over the updates made to the website including adding big tree and insect/disease information links.

He would like to add NRCC photos of the Cecil students also.  Gabrielle will provide them.

New Business:

Ron should have acorns available from his wye oak descendent tree.

John and Dorothy’s pollinator garden is working well with many interesting observations on species and effectiveness.

John worked the State Fair this year on Labor Day.  It went well with several pretty good discussions.

Michael reported there are still many problems with trees out there, including insects, disease and saturated soils.

Gabrielle reported there will probably be some changes at NRCC next year as Steve Resh is retiring from Allegany College.  Hopefully AC will continue to partner with the NRCC.
