Attendees:

Gabrielle Oldham        Dori Murphy

Ron Anderson             Kathie Jarmon

John Bennett               Tom Frederick

Michael Morgan

Treasurer’s Report:

Submitted by Tom Frederick.  Board members discussed current financial status.

Tom went over the final CY 2018 accomplishments/expenditures report and the updated COPCO funds report.

Gabrielle will send out request letter to the Elkton VFW to fund a donation to NRCC student scholarships.  Thanks to Ron for setting this up.

Update on Big Tree Program:

John went over several news articles developed over the last month.

He also gave a presentation on trees nominated and measured by some local residents on the new ENSP addition (old Camp Brisson).  12 and possibly more trees were/will be nominated with two possible state champions so far.  Some will be difficult to measure because of terrain.

John, Dori and Kathie will be measuring trees on Feb 17th at Mount Harmons.  Gabrielle and Michael also may attend.

Ron located the absentee landowner for the Willow Oak in Charlestown through a friend (small world).  The permission form has been submitted.

NRCC Update:

Approximately 15 students have applied so far statewide.  March 30th will be a cut-off date for applications.  Applications will be accepted, but will only be selected if there are openings.

Gabrielle will be giving a presentation at MAOEA conference in Towson on NRCC.  Jasmine Whim will also have a display there.

Luther Weigle will be leaving Allegany College for family reasons.  He was the logistics officer for NRCC.

Website Update:

Ron added the CY 2018 accomplishment report to the site.

He also added some old photos that John presented last month of Black Hill.  The Board would like to start a history page on the site. The photos are a good start.

New Business:

Ron reported that the “grandkids” of the Wye Oak he germinated are doing well in his basement.

Michael reported that he has pretty bad “oak decline” on his property on Elk Neck.  Oak decline is a serious condition in which many oak trees die due to native fungi attacking the trees, generally through the roots.  It hits “older”, stressed trees.  There is no real treatment for this issue.

Tom went over a possible tree planting this Spring at Calvert ES involving about 100 seedlings/shelters.  Anyone interested in helping out, let Tom know.

Gabrielle asked the Board if they wanted to participate in the St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show this Spring on May 3rd, 9am – 6pm and May 4, 9am – 4pm.  The Board voted 6-0 to participate.  Once closer we will need to work out a schedule
