Treasurer’s Report:

Submitted by Tom Frederick

The financial status for the board was discussed by the members.

Gabrielle has re-sent a request letter to the Elkton VFW to fund a donation to NRCC student scholarships. Thanks to Ron for setting this up.

The Board will need to order more checks shortly.

NRCC Interview:

The Board interviewed another highly qualified candidate for this year’s camp.  Gabrielle will contact the student of her selection and Dawn Balinski to reserve the spot for Cecil County.  This is the 3rd accepted student for Cecil County.

Cabin Fever Display:

John and Kathie attended the event with Bryan Lightner, Green Infrastructure Workgroup.  They reported that the event was moderately well attended.  John developed some excellent display boards with Tree ID pictures and written clues for children (and adults).  It was very popular.

Update on Big Tree Program:

John reminded the Board of the permission request status of Cecil trees needing to be remeasured this year.

John has had another busy month working with the Hudock’s on measuring trees in Elk Neck State Park.  It also included a visit to Mt. Harmon’s with Dori and Gabrielle.  And 2 visits to Howard County, Baltimore County and St. Mary’s County.  Pictures were presented on the more impressive trees of all these sites.

John, Dori and Kathie are planning a measuring day in Cecil on April 14th.

John reported that small multi-stem exotic shrubs/trees will generally not be accepted by the State Big Tree Program.

Website Update:

Ron has been adding Cecil Big trees to the local Big Tree website as he receives them.

He also took some pictures from the same view of the historical pictures of Black Hill and posted them next to each other.  It is pretty good start to the history page he has added to the website.

New Business:

Michael is planning on maintaining the Cecil College Tree ID Trail and replacing the Tree ID markers where needed this Spring/Summer.

Kathie relayed an invitation from the Fairweather Farm Event to put up a booth.  But this is one week before the St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show and that weekend will take up a lot of Board time.  The Board does supply the Fairweather Farm Event with 100 White Pine seedlings.

Gabrielle will send out a schedule for the St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show.  It runs from Thursday afternoon, May 2 (setup), May 3 all day, May 4 most of the day & cleanup.  Tom will purchase wire ties for the individually packed white pine seedlings.

The next Forestry Board meeting is May 1, 2019.  For those that can, please arrive around 4:45 – 5:00 to pack the trees for St. Mary Anne’s Garden Show.  Tom will contact everybody if he can get most or all the trees packed.
