Elk Neck State Park Salvage Harvest Critical Area Timber Harvest Plan(THP) Review:

The Board reviewed a Critical Area THP for the Elk Neck State Park salvage harvest from tornado damage on June 13th.  The Plan was developed by Tom Frederick and included 81 acres.  The Board voted 6-0 to approve the Plan.  Tom will send out the appropriate notifications.

NRCC Update:

Gabrielle gave a preliminary report on this year’s NRCC.  The Camp had 42 people registered, but 1 was a no-show and one left early because of a family emergency.   She reported that the NRCC went great again this year.  Allegany College staff were again instrumental in making the Camp a success.  The 3 Cecil students did very well.  A previous Cecil student was invited to serve as an intern for the week. Gabrielle presented pictures from the week’s activities.

Update on Big Tree Program:

John went over the landowner contact assignments for trees needing to be measured/remeasured in Cecil County.  He would like to set up a measuring day for September.  Gabrielle, Dori and Kathie offered to help if their schedules allow.  Overall statewide, the re-measurement process is going pretty well.  47 of 133 trees are left to remeasure (15 from Cecil).  John presented pictures of several statewide measuring trips this summer.

Ron provided the new owner’s information for a property that has a large willow oak in Charlestown.  The tree is due to be remeasured.

Michael informed John of a large honey locust in the Calvert Oak area.   John will stop by and take a look.

Website Update:

Ron added last month’s minutes and invited board members to submit content they would like to see on the site.

Gabrielle provided some of this year’s NRCC pictures.

New Business:

Michael reported that work on removing/repairing tree damage in the area has been non-stop this summer due to all the storms.

Tom presented Kathie with her new 3 year reappointment certificate, and thanked her for all of the time she donates to the Cecil Board activities.
