Treasurer’s Report:

Tom Frederick gave the board a summary of funds, and this was discussed by those present.

Tom went over the annual expenditure/accomplishment report.  He will send a copy to Ron to put on the website.

Update on Big Tree Program:

John visited some trees in the Chesapeake City area that were leftover from 2019.  One was cut down and he obtained permission forms for several others.  A tentative measuring day has been set up for Jan 19th.

John, Dori, Kathie and Gabrielle will try to attend.

A total of 18 trees need to be re-measured in 2020.  Kathie and Dori measured 4 of those in December of 2019.   A total of 3 didn’t make the cut under the new State Program rules.  They were not close enough in size to the State Champion or County Champion to re-measure.  So there is a total of 11 that still need to be re-measured.  John will send out permission forms for these.

Kathie now has the State Champion Black Oak on her property!!  Congratulations!

John presented pictures from Dori and Kathie’s measuring day in December.

State Program

John showed some pictures of recently measured trees on the Eastern Shore.

John gave out the State Big Tree annual report.

NRCC Update:

So far 2 students statewide have been accepted.

Two “fellows” are still with the Program.

Gabrielle and the two fellows will be attending the MAEOE Conference on Feb 6, 7, 8.

Website Update:

Ron added last month’s minutes and this month’s agenda.

He has also continued to make sure the County and State Big Tree websites information match.  Several discrepancies were corrected tonight.

New Business:

John suggested we should advertise the Poster Contest next year.  It was suggested to send the electronic information to specific teachers next year by email, if possible.

Michael went over some of the native fungi attacking trees in the Elk Neck area especially.  He also went over some Spotted Lantern Fly information, including some spray control possibilities.

Tom went over Kenneth Jolly’s appointment as Acting Director/State Forester status.
