In Cecil, I received a
nomination and a signed permission form on 9/15 for an unknown oak inPerryville. I called the owner and asked her to send me
some photos of the trunk and leavesfor potential size
and species. She said she would but has not as yet.
In
Joli and Sandra Drew measured in
Chris
and Sharon Winton measured a huge yellow poplar at the Hampton Mansion
Historical Site, NPS. It measured at 435 points (multi-trunk). Joli and Linda
Barker re-measured another huge yellow poplar on private property in western

The ENSP Salvage Harvest is still moving along. The
weather has been somewhat favorable, except for the 5 inch rains. They
are currently working on the east side of
One interesting thing to report. A couple years ago the Univ
of Kentucky asked for our assistance in collecting white oak seed for a genetic
project on white oaks throughout its native range. I don't think they
received a big response, but I collected some seed from the
Calvert Oak. They requested more seed this year and reported the
progeny from the Cecil tree was one of the best performers from seed collected
throughout its native range. I am not sure how much response they received
from other states.
